The outgoing president, Bamir Topi, greeted the 13th anniversary of the end of war in Kosovo. Topi mentioned the fighters that sacrificed their lives for freedom and independence against the Serbian paramilitary troops.

The President declared that Kosovo is today an example of pride and success for the Albanians throughout the region, while he mentioned the massacres and the crimes made by Milosevic’s regime against the citizens.

On Kosovo’s Liberation Day, a series of events were prepared for commemorating the people that sacrificed their lives for freedom.

President Atifete Jahjaga declared in a message given yesterday that Kosovo’s declaration as an independent and sovereign state was built on the foundations of civil values, a major work of many generations that sacrificed their lives for the ideal of freedom”.

“This was achieved thanks to the Kosovo Liberation Army fighters and the constant support of our international friends”, Jahjaga declared.

The Parliament Speaker, Jakup Krasniqi, declared that this is the day on which Kosovo’s state started to grow. Krasniqi added that Kosovo’s institutions are building the state of the future and rule of law, with a clear European orientation.
